One of the largest travel fairs in Asia attracts record attendance

The fifth Bali and Beyond Travel Fair (BBTF) took place last week between 26-30 June at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center in the Badung regency. The fair saw record attendances this year with over 400 participants, which eclipsed last year's record attendance of 200 from 38 countries.

Buyers from more than 42 countries had registered and the fair also saw a record amount of media present from all over the world, to cover the event.

This year’s edition focused on “Exploring the Colors of Indonesia”. In addition to promoting Bali, BBTF also aimed to highlight Indonesia’s top 10 other tourist destinations, as well as the rich cultural and geographical diversity which the country possesses. Overall, representatives from over 21 provinces promoted their respective regions.

Meeting point for worldwide travel professionals and Indonesian private and public sector within tourism

BBTF aims to reunite international tourism industry leaders around a series of “speed-dating-style” appointments as well as presentations and debates. This allows international buyers to efficiently discover and connect with the best-matched tourism sellers in the region.

This year, the event also featured sellers from China, India, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, as well as Middle Eastern and European countries, as the fair has grown from beyond its initial focus on Bali over the years.

The buyers were divided into two categories, namely fully hosted and partially hosted. Fully hosted buyers includes tour operators who can bring in 10,000 travellers with an average expense of 1,100 EUR each per visit.

Focus on the local communities

The Bali Tourism Board’s head of tourism, Ida Ayu Indah, emphasized their hopes for the event to help tour operators come up with packages which also cover tourist villages. This would empower the villages, local communities and give the travellers a unique experience, she said.

This year, the Badung regency in Bali acted as a co-host. According to Badung Tourism Board head I Made Badra, the regency supports this event with funding which also covers promotional expenses.

“Badung regency has also designed the Sasana Budaya building located at our official headquarters. The building will be completed in 2020 with the capacity of 15,000 people. It is projected to be the main BBTF venue after its completion,” Badra said.
