With 1.32 million bottles, Walloon wine breaks all records

With 1.32 million bottles produced this year, Walloon wine has the wind in its sails. This represents an 80% increase, compared to last year, and 40% compared to the 2015 record, the Echo reported Saturday.

Behind this boom we find particularly favorable weather conditions, coupled with an increased production area (about 148 hectares).

As for the quality of the wine produced, “it is at the top, both in sugar content and acidity,” the President of the Wallonia Winemakers' Association, Pierre Rion, said, who feels a derogation should be requested from the Walloon Minister of Agriculture, René Collin, “in order to benefit from the guarantees of origin.”

“For, we generally produce on average over 60 hectoliters per hectare, which is beyond the standards fixed by decree, in particular regarding the Walloon wine PDO,” Mr. Rion explains.
