Technology threatens half of all jobs in Belgium

Half of all jobs could be replaced by a computer or a robot in the next twenty years. One in three people could therefore lose their jobs. This is especially true for jobs considered “routine” and with a modest salary, such as administrative staff, cashiers or household help. This was reported by De Standaard and Het Nieuwsblad.

For the first time in Belgium, the ING Bank has looked at the risk of 140 different jobs being replaced by a computer or a robot in the next twenty years in a scientific way.

It shows that Belgium is even more vulnerable to the “robot revolution” than America, as a similar study was done there.

However, there is no need to panic. While there is a risk that technology will overtake people for certain jobs, the study doesn’t say these jobs will become automated. The emergence of new technology (robots) also creates jobs in Belgium.
