iPhone 6 : Waiting lines in Japan, operators in search for new clients

Some people have waited for two weeks in front of this particular Apple store in Tokyo in order to be sure to be the first ones in possession of the new iPhone6 on Friday morning. Local operators are doing their best to take advantage of the strong interest. “Finally”, shouted Tetsuya Tamura a bit before 8H00 local time, a forty year old man wearing a black T-shirt saying “on sale today”. He and his son had waited patiently in front of the store since September 6 as the shop vendors received them with open arms and with applause.

Mr Tamura was already in possession of a fake iPhone 6, “made in China”, that he had bought over the internet, but he wanted a real. A waiting queue amounting to about 100 people lined up behind him.

Some 15 metres away in front of the store for the operator “SoftBank”, there was nobody but a few wooden piles. “those are trying to take their chance but we can’t take the risk and make promises that we will have enough phones because many clients reserve and do not show up on time”, one salesperson explained from the operator.

Japanese operators are in search for new clients whom they try to target with the new iPhone 6, “0 yen”, says one publicity.

Even better, in some case the new smartphone becomes “cheaper than free”. In effect, each one of the three large operators NTT Docomo, SoftBank Mobile and KDDI, buy back the old iPhone models and certain other smartphones for a price that can reach more than 300 euros, the amount is given in form of subscription discounts for clients who choose to leave a competitor and join them.
