The messaging service by Facebook has now surpassed more than 500 million regular users. “Today more than 500 million people use Messenger every month,” Facebook wrote in a statement released on Monday. The application, created in 2011, was removed as a main application last spring. This controversial move aroused frustration among many users who were subsequently forced to install the application separately if they wanted to keep the chatting features.
Many also criticized the breakdown and separation of other applications belonging to the social network site – applications including WhatsApp, Instagram and Slingshot, a service which enables quick sharing of photos and videos with friends.
