Every person present in a zone suffering a terrorist attack, a natural catastrophe, or any other emergency taking place in our country, will be alerted via a text message, revealed Home Secretary Jan Jambon (N-VA) in his latest political newsletter, report the dailies De Tijd and L’Echo on Friday. Mr. Jambon negotiated the implementation of his Text Alert project with the 3 Belgian mobile phone operators: Proximus, Base, and Mobistar. Anyone with a phone crossing the risk area – hence not only people who live there, but visitors and foreign tourists as well – may receive a text message alerting them to the situation.
NL-Alert is already in place in the Netherlands, but is based on a different technology.
