Nokia the longtime leader in mobile telecommunications will make their comeback into the mobile scene with smartphones and tablets next year. The devices should arrive within the market within the first trimester of 2017, this was announced by the Finnish HMD Global who have received the exclusive rights to exploit the brand for the next 10 years.
The group has officially communicated that HMD has achieved all the conditions to start production, having closed all the transaction with the Taiwanese company FIH mobile (group FoxConn) and the American giant Microsoft, who had bought the brand Nokia in 2014.
“Nokia had been for years the most iconic and present brand in the mobile communication market” explains Arto Nummela, director of HDM Global. In cooperation with Google, the new smartphones will use android as their operating system. Fabrication of the new devices will be handled by Foxconn.
HMD Global will officially, on Thursday, reintroduce activity to the brand Nokia, which had been sold to Microsoft in 2014.
From the 90’s to 2000, Nokia had been the leader in sales of mobile phones worldwide. The Nokia 3310 was the most sold mobile phone of its time.
Microsoft tried to rescue the declining brand by buying it, at faire price according to the Finnish, for 5,4 billion euros in 2014. After failing to rescue the brand, Microsoft sold its base mobile activity to HMD Global and FIH mobile for 330 million euros in may. The failure of the American giant came at a price of the salary of 1350 Finnish employees.
