Telecoms authority slaps 300,000-euro fine on Telenet

Belgium’s postal services and telecommunications institute, IBPT, has fined Telenet 300,000 euros for not mentioning all transfer data on some bills, the Institute announced on Monday. The authority said it imposed the fine because the service provider failed to mention directly the Easy Switch ID on the invoices of professional customers that had subscribed to a rate plan for landlines, Internet and/or television destined for consumers.

Customers needed to have informed their new operator of this Easy Switch ID since 2017 to enable it to settle the entire transfer instead of the customer. Operators need to publish this Easy Switch ID in the customer zone, a document the client receives when connecting for the first time with a new operator, and on the invoice.

The IBPT investigation found that Telenet failed to mention the Easy Switch ID for a specific group of customers: professional clients who had had residential rate plans with Telenet in the past.
