Brussels: 350 people protest the situation for Kurds in Syria

According to local police, 350 Kurdish citizens and supporters of their cause, protested in front of the European Parliament on Thursday afternoon. The purpose of this protest was to draw attention to the plight of the Kurds caught in the Syrian conflict. They particularly condemned the situation in the Syrian town of Kobani, located in Kurdish territory near the Turkish border, which last week suffered a major offensive by Islamic State (EI) jihadists causing more than 130,000 civilians to flee the village. Protesters gathered around noon on the Place du Luxembourg, in front of the European Parliament. They called on the international community t sanction the EI for its actions, as well as countries that they believe support the EI, Turkey in particular. They also called on Turkey to welcome the thousands of Kurdish refugees from Kobani who have been crossing the order over the last few days.

"In recent days, EI jihadists have grown strongly in the Kobani region and besieged approximately twenty villages. Kurds who have fled to Turkey, should be protected and receive humanitarian aid. Finally, we call on the international community to support the Kurdish fighters who fight against the jihadists who are the only ones fighting against the EI in the region", said one protester.
