Huawei reaffirms plans for continued focus on European market with faster digitalization via innovation

During its annual “Innovation Days” in Munich on 15-16 June, the Chinese telecom giant shared its vision on opportunities and potential co-operation and development with companies and industries across Europe. “Huawei can help Europe accelerate digitization in the areas of equipment, infrastructure, and applications, and we are working closely with customers, partners, and research institutes to drive progress,” William Xu, the company’s chief strategy marketing officer, told the attendees.
The vision can be summarized under what Huawei refers to as “Industry 4.0”, which brings together a single and standardized “Internet of Things” ecosystem together with 5G networks and Huawei’s LiteOS IoT platform.
“Huawei’s strategy for Industry 4.0 can be summarized as a 1-2-1 strategy,” said Xu. “The first ‘1’ refers to a single unified IoT platform. The ‘2’ refers to two access modes – wired and wireless – via industrial switches, industrial Wi-Fi, or eLTE. The last ‘1’ refers to Huawei’s own IoT operating system.”
Huawei has over 15 years of experience in Europe, having set up 18 R&D offices and 19 joint innovation centers. With a staff of over 1 200 employees across Europe, the focus is on technological innovation ranging from wireless networks and microchips to design and aesthetics.
During innovation days, Xu announced that Huawei has established over 700 partnerships in Europe, and works closely with more than 120 academic institutions.
The company is at the moment undertaking a five-year investment program, which has included new research centers, deployment of 4G and fixed broadband networks as well as development of the technology behind the upcoming 5G networks.
