Eurotunnel says it has intercepted 37,000 immigrants in 2015

On Wednesday, the Eurotunnel group said it has intercepted more than 37,000 immigrants since the 1st of January. They called on State authorities to “react properly” after several hundred immigrants attempted to cross 1,500 times overnight. One of the immigrants died during their attempt. “Eurotunnel warned the Intergovernmental Channel Tunnel Commission and public authorities about the increase in the number of immigrants in Calais (North France) several months ago. They were also warned of the sometimes dramatic consequences that could have”, Eurotunnel said in a press release. They added that the situation “is more than a concessionary can reasonably handle”.
