Johan Museeuw and six other Belgian cyclists head to Paris for Climate Change awareness

Seven cyclists left the Atomium in Brussels at 6am on Saturday morning, to head to Paris. They arrived at the Eiffel Tower at the end of the day. The team, which included the former professional cyclist Johan Museeuw, hope it will encourage as many people as possible to take part in the Big March for Climate Change awareness. It will take place in Paris on the 29th of November, before the International Climate Summit. Climate Express, the movement behind the initiative, hopes at least 10,000 Belgians will turn up in Paris on the 29th of November, to put pressure on political deciders. Citizens are encouraged to get there by train, bus or bike.

Climate Express has organised a bike ride from Brussels five days before the big march. The association hopes to convince 300 people to get to Paris using pure leg muscle power, to promote the event and show it can be done; that’s why Johan Museeuw and his team mates cycled to Paris, this time in one day.

“I think of my children and their children. If we don’t do something about it together, it will be a disaster for the planet”, the Belgian former professional cyclist said. He was nicknamed “the lion of Flanders”.

Climate Express is organising several events between now and the 21st United Nations Climate Change Conference, which will take place from the 30th of November to the 11th of December 2015. These events are part of its #movetheclimate campaign. All the practical information is on its website, https://fr.climate-express.be.
