Migrant crisis: Turkey threatens to declare EU migration agreement void

Yesterday (Wednesday) Turkey threatened to unilaterally declare void the migration agreement entered into during March 2016. This had allowed for the considerable reduction of migrant and refugee arrivals in Europe.

The Turkish Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mevlut Cavusoglu, stated in an interview for the channel 24 TV, “We can unilaterally bring (this agreement) to an end. We have not yet informed our (European) counterparts. All of this is in our hands at the present time.”

He went on, “Starting from now, we are free to say both that we will no longer apply the agreement and that it has come to an end.”
