Dutch parliamentary elections - Juncker hails “a vote against extremism”

Yesterday evening (Wednesday) the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, congratulated the Dutch Liberal Premier Minister, Mark Rutte, for his “clear victory” in the parliamentary elections. He hailed a “vote against extremism.”

The spokesman for the EU executive, Margaritis Schinas, tweeted that Jean-Claude Juncker “spoke to Mark Rutte (and) congratulated him for his clear victory: a vote for Europe, a vote against extremism.”

Exit polls indicated at the beginning of the evening that the current Prime Minister had easily beaten his Far-right rival, Geert Wilders, during the elections which have been under the microscope throughout Europe.
