Contaminated eggs: Chickfriend managers remain in custody

The two managers of the Dutch company Chickfriend will remain on remand for two more weeks, a Dutch court ruled on Tuesday. The two, Martin van de B. (31) and Mathijs IJ (24) were arrested last Thursday in connection with the investigation into the scandal of eggs contaminated with insecticide.

They are suspected of endangering public health by supplying or using the insecticide Fipronil for rearing layer hens.

The Dutch judicial investigation focuses on three companies that seem to have played a key role in the crisis: Chickfriend, Poultry Vision in Belgium and another Dutch company suspected of collaborating with the Belgian supplier.
