#InMyName: Demonstration for a European migration policy worthy of the name

Many associations that assist refugees plan to stage a late-afternoon demonstration on December 13 in Rue de la Loi, Brussels, to press for “a European migration policy worthy of the name”, the CNCD-11.11.11 NGO umbrella announced in a press release on Monday. The demonstration will take place on the eve of the last European summit for the year.

Demonstrators will carry survival blankets and a 100-metre banner bearing the names of migrants who died in the Mediterranean Sea so as to give visibility to the over 33,000 persons who lost their lives trying to cross the sea since the year 2000, making it the deadliest border in the world, the association said.

On the eve of the protest, December 12, CNCD-11.11.11 will organize a counter-summit in Brussels to shine a different light on migration. It will be attended by members of African civil society as well as other personalities such as Damien Carême, mayor of Grande Synthe, whose commune in northern France faces a massive influx of migrants.

The CNCD-11.11.11 (National Development Cooperation Centre-11.11.11.) is an umbrella of Belgian NGOs and associations active in the area of international solidarity.
