Charles Michel on Brexit: “Our work isn’t over yet”

Prime Minister Charles Michel on Friday welcomed the progress made in the negotiations on Brexit. "This agreement is an important step forward. An intelligent agreement on Brexit is in the interest of our citizens and our businesses. The UK is and will remain our neighbor forever. But our work isn’t over yet!” he tweeted in English on Friday morning.

Earlier on Friday, British Prime Minister Theresa May and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker announced that they had reached "sufficient progress" in the negotiations on the three issues considered particularly important for a deal: the rights of expatriate citizens after Brexit, the financial settlement, and the question of the border between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

This progress paves the way for further negotiations, initially on a transition period of about two years and then on the future relationship between the United Kingdom and the European Union, said Donald Tusk, President of the European Council.
