Post-Brexit transition ends on 31 December 2020 - EU

Member states of the European Union (EU) on Monday renewed the mandate of the European Commission to pursue negotiations on Brexit with the United Kingdom, and set 31 December 2020 as the cut-off date for completing the transition aimed at softening the UK’s withdrawal from the EU. The withdrawal is scheduled for 30 March 2019.

The European ministers needed only a few minutes to launch the second phase of the negotiations, an aide to negotiator-in-chief Michel Barnier said on Twitter.

It was also decided that all European rules and legislation would continue to apply to the UK during the post-Brexit transition period. However, the UK would no longer be represented in EU institutions, nor would it have a say on EU policy.
