May reveals Trump told her to "sue" the EU

On Sunday, British Prime Minister Theresa May revealed American President Donald Trump had a surprising suggestion on how to handle Brexit: “sue the EU”.
“He told me I should take the EU to court. Sue the EU. Not negotiate, sue”, the Tory PM said while appearing on the BBC’s political program The Andrew Marr Show on Sunday. “But no, we are going to negotiate”, the Prime Minister said.

Mrs May was asked about a statement Mr Trump made during their joint press conference near London on Friday. He told journalists he had given the PM advice about how to handle Brexit, but Mrs May had thought it “too brutal”. Donald Trump’s four-day visit to the UK ended on Sunday.

In an interview with The Sun, Donald Trump said he would have negotiated “very differently” if he was in Theresa May’s position. “In fact, I told Theresa May what I thought she should do and she disagreed”, he said. He also said he thought she was heading down a path that veered away the British public’s vote to leave the EU during the 2016 referendum.

“During the press conference, the President also said not to back down. Don’t abandon the negotiations, because then you’ll really be stuck”, Theresa May said when speaking to the BBC. She reiterated her desire to negotiate the “best agreement” possible with Brussels. Britain is due to leave the EU in March 2019.
