Some 140 Polish firemen on their way to Sweden to combat fires

Poland decided to send 140 firemen to Sweden to combat forest fires that are sustained by a major drought and are raging in the south of this Scandinavian country, announced Friday Polish Minister of Internal Affairs. The Polish Government informed the European Civil Protection Mechanism, contacted earlier this week by Sweden, on “its availability to send human and material means.’’ Sweden accepted Friday morning Poland’s offer of assistance, indicates the Minister in a press release.

The firemen and 44 vehicles will leave Saturday by ferry the Swinoujscie Port (North-West) for Malmö (South of Sweden), to proceed to the Sveg Region, in Central Sweden, ravaged by fires.

Their mission, totally independent logistically, is planned for a two-week period, stipulated the Minister.
