The private driver booking platform, Uber, has opened discussions around the possibility of a takeover of the meal delivery service, Deliveroo, for several billion dollars. The information was relayed by sources at the Bloomberg press agency.
The discussions may break off at any time, as Deliveroo and its investors are reticent at the idea of losing their independence.
Deliveroo was valued at $2 billion for the last financial year. Insiders suggest that the Uber proposal could be far higher than this total. Neither of the two companies wish to comment at the present time.
If such a takeover were to take place, Uber would considerably strengthen its hold on the home meal delivery market, particularly in Europe.
