New coin to be minted to “celebrate” Brexit
Philip Hammond, British Minister of Finance.

A new 50 pence GBP coin will be minted when the UK leaves the European Union. The coin should be available from 29 March 2019, Brexit’s official day. The portrait of Queen Elizabeth II will figure on the coin, with the inscription “Friendship with all nations”.

In 1973, when the UK entered the European Economic Community (EEC), a 50 pence coin to mark the political event was also minted, and again in 1998, when it took over the EU presidency.

According to various British medias, Philip Hammond, British Minister of Finance, will make the announcement of the new coin on Monday during his budget presentation.
