A new "Big Jump" is organized on Sunday across Europe.
This consists in jumping into a lake or river in view of raising public awareness to the cleanliness of our lakes, canals and rivers.
Six sites in Wallonia and 13 in Flanders will host a big jump, but not in Brussels this year.
The association GoodPlanet Belgium, which is our country’s Big Jump coordinator, wants this action to draw policymakers’ attention to the importance of the quality of our waters.
Last year, more than 1,600 people had taken the plunge in 17 different locations. In total, some 150 Big Jumps will take place in 20 European countries.
In Wallonia, a Big Jump is possible in: Genval Lake (Aiseau); the Meuse (Huy); Lesse (Laundry); Lake Conchibois (Saint-Léger) and in the former Charleroi-Brussels channel (Seneffe).
The 'Pool is Cool' collective had already announced that a Big Jump in Brussels Canal, however, would not be authorized this year.
It is 'Pool is Cool' which organized this action every year in order to promote outdoor bathing in the capital. The Port of Brussels has made it clear that it did not support this initiative of civil disobedience.
