Louise Carton wins silver medal in 5000m at Euro Espoirs Athletics event

Louise Carton came second in the women’s 5,000m at the European Espoirs Athletics Championships (U23) in Tallinn, Estonia on Sunday. The “21-year-old from Ostend ran the 5000 m in 15:32.75, a new record for the U23 category in Belgium. She was beaten byFrance’s Liv Westphal who came in at 15:30.61. Ukrainian Viktoriya Kalyuzhna (15:38.38) took third place on the podium. Imana Truyens came in 10th at 15:59.93, a personal best.

Louise Carton’s success enabled Belgium to claim its 3rd medal at the event, and the second one that day. On Sunday afternoon Nafissatou Thiam came second in the high jump and Isaac Kameli also took silver at the men’s 5,000 m  on Saturday.
