Ghent’s qualifying match for the last-16 round of the Champions League, which they won 2-1 against Zenit St Petersburg, was watched by 244,8882 viewers on Club RTL on Wednesday evening, representing 13.7% of 18-64 year-olds. “This is the largest television audience ever for a Belgian club playing at this level of the competition,” says RTL Belgium on Thursday.
In the Flemish-speaking part of the country, some 900,000 people watched the game on private channel 2BE, with a peak of 1,079,736 people watching at one point, representing 36.6% of the market, revealed 2BE’s parent company Medialaan. These are the highest viewing figures 2BE has ever commanded for a Champions League match.
