Europa League - Ghent plays against Viitorul (5-0) and is in serious contention for a decisive qualifier

Ghent largely dominated the game, winning 5-0 against the Romanians FC Viitorul Constan?a as part of the third round qualification match of the Europa League. The match took place on Thursday evening at the Ghent Ghelamco Arena. The goals of the match were scored by Stefan Mitrovic, Kalifa Coulibaly (2), Laurent Depoitre and Renato Neto.

Ghent has made Europe one of its priorities at the beginning of this season. This is a message which seemed to have been drummed into the players. When playing against FC Viitorul Constan?a, who were fourth in their league last season, the Buffalos responded to the call of duty easily, beating the opposition 5-0.

Although Coulibaly wanted to give his team the lead with a header from the twelfth minute of the game, it was, in the end, the Serbian central defender Mitrovic who took advantage of a well-taken corner by Sven Kums to score the first goal of the first half (1-0, at minute 16). Twenty minutes later, Coulibaly added a victorious excellent second goal by receiving a header from the midfielder Thomas Foket (2-0, at minute 37).

As if this was not enough, Hein Vanhaezebrouck’s men took a third goal, from the beginning of the second half, via Coulibaly, by a strike (3-0, at minute 50). Just six minutes later it was Depoitre’s turn to deceive the Romanian goal keeper, Victor Rimniceanu, for the fourth time in the evening (4-0, minute 56).

Lastly, at the 66th minute of the game, Neto definitively established the score of the match at 5-0, following fantastic all-round action.

Next Thursday, the Buffalos travel, without any pressure, to Romania to fight out the return match.
