2016 Olympic Games: Dirk Van Tichelt’s coach to celebrate medal “with a good Belgian beer”

Robert Krawczyk has been accompanying Dirk Van Tichelt for several years. The bronze medal won at Rio by his promising young talent was reason for great emotion for the Polish coach.

“I am a very luck trainer,” was the reaction Krawczyk, former European champion for under 81 kg. “We have had to overcome quite a number of problems in the long preparation for these games.  Dirk suffered several injuries: to his ankle, elbow and finger. There was always something. But that’s part of judo. This medal is a fine reward for all the hard work, not only by Dirk and I, but by the entire team behind us, including sparring partners.”

“Dirk already deserved this medal eight years ago, and also four years ago. So I’m not so surprised to see him on the podium today,” continued the trainer. “Dirk has reached the ideal age. If he remains in shape, he promises even more fine demonstrations.”

“If we’re going to celebrate? For the moment I’m very tired, but I think we deserve a good Belgian beer,” concluded the coach.
