Negotiations on premiums and image copyright are “on the right track”

The Belgian Football Union (URBSFA) and the Red Devils are close to reaching an agreement on image copyright and premiums for players. National coach Roberto Martinez and the Red Devils Captain Eden Hazard made the announcement at Tubize on Sunday.

The previous agreement was negotiated by the former CEO Steven Martens before the Brazil World Cup in 2014. The player’s large premiums are hitting the Belgian Union’s finances. Its Vice-President Bart Verhaeghe recently said he wanted to drastically reduce them. They are said to have finally reached an agreement this time, after several months of negotiation. “It’s irritating to see this has gone on for so long”, Eden Hazard commented on Sunday. “I don’t enjoy being part of it all. We are footballers and not negotiators. But we are on the right track. Both parties have made concessions and I don’t expect to find a solution quickly”.

Roberto Martinez also gave his opinion. “Everybody wants to find a solution quickly. Both parties are partly responsible”, he concluded.
