Alain Courtois - National Stadium symbolizes Belgium. which is not, or no longer, working

“The issue of the National Stadium is the symbol of Belgium which is not, or no longer, working,” the first alderman of the City of Brussels, Alain Courtois of the Reformist Movement (MR), said on Friday in an interview with Bel RTL. “We’re a country where people no longer know how to have a big national project,” he said. “I believe this sincerely,” he continued, adding that there had not been a project of that magnitude on Belgian territory since 1958.

“I think the Federal Government has a role to play” in the stadium case, Courtois said, adding that the process had not ended and that the Federal Government could still intervene.

“We are going to deploy missions everywhere to sell Belgium’s image and for fifty metres of stadium in Flanders; we have an entire project that is not working,” the Brussels alderman said. “The stadium is now the symbol of this Belgium, which is not working because there are too many decision-makers, too many communities, too many regions, too must lasagna, too much everything!”
