Red Devils are 7th team in World Cup history to win after trailing by 0-2

Belgium’s 3-2 victory against Japan on Monday earned it a berth in the quarter finals – against Brazil, on Friday – and made the Red Devils only the 7th team to win a World Cup game after trailing by 0-2, according to the international football federation, FIFA. Their spectacular win after being two goals down was the first such comeback since 1970. The only other time this has happened in the knock-out stage was when West Germany bounced back from a 0-2 deficit to beat England by 3-2 after extra time.

The semi-final in 1982 between Germany and France is not on the list: after trailing by 1-3, the Germans equalized at 3-3, then won on penalties. That game was registered as a draw by FIFA.
