The two flights Brussels Airlines has provided to airlift supporters of the Red Devils to Kazan, Russia, on Friday were sold out in barely an hour, the carrier reported on Tuesday. “We’re astonished that they went so quickly,” airline spokesperson Kim Daenen admitted.
The Belgians play Brazil on Friday for a place in the Football World Cup semi-finals.
"For Friday, we exceptionally set aside two planes, an A330 and an A319, which together represent 405 seats,” the spokeswoman said. “Sales began at 12 noon and everything was sold out just after 1 p.m.”
Tickets on this “fan flight” cost 699 euros. That covers the trip to Kazan on Friday morning, transport to and from the stadium by bus, and the return trip to Brussels after the match. In this way, supporters can save on hotel costs in Russia, the company said, although they do need to buy their own tickets for the match.
During the group phase of the World Cup, 4,500 Belgian supporters took similar fan flights to Russia to attend the Red Devils matches.
On the other hand, Monday’s flight for the Round-of-16 match against Japan was not completely full.
