Thibaut Courtois was named “Golden Glove” of the 2018 Football World Cup tournament at the end of the final of the tournament, which France won by 4-2 against Croatia on Sunday in Moscow. “It’s an incredible honour,” the Red Devils’ goalie said on Sunday on the Belgian radio and TV station RTBF. “It’s not easy to win. You first have to go far with your team, and second, to be very decisive for your team, but for me that was not the most important thing because I wanted to go as far as possible with the team; but I’m happy I was able to make many saves to help the team,” added Courtois, who has also been shining at Chelsea. “It’s one of the most important prizes you can win as a player.”

Asked which was the most delicate save he made at the World Cup, he chose “the one against Tolisso (in the last seconds of the game against France) even if it’s not an important save.” He added : “It was hard on the ground to the left. I am 2.00 metres tall. Few goalkeepers can move to the ball so quickly. In terms of importance, it was the one against Neymar. That was a delicate moment. If I’d left the ball I think it was going into the goal.”

Thibaut Courtois is the second Belgian to have obtained the best-goalkeeper prize. The first was Michel Preud’homme, who won it in 1994 in the United States.
