Over 1,600 police officers mobilised for Formula 1 Grand Prix

Over 1,600 police officers will be mobilised next weekend for the Spa-Francorchamps Formula 1 Grand Prix, a major event in the province of Liège. This year the event will attract more than 100,000 spectators throughout the weekend. Local police from the Stavelot-Malmedy zone will be assisted by reinforcements from other precincts, federal police and police from neighbouring countries such as Germany, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. There will also be 200 security agents and 300 stewards per day.

"Particular attention will be focused on prevention,” said Bernard Goffin, head of the local police.

Police will be equipped with a “crash card” and will be able to find their way thanks to a QR code scanned with their mobile phones. This is “particularly useful for officers who are not from the region,” said federal police officer Jean-Marc Demelenne.

Some 150 rescue workers from the Red Cross will also be on hand.

For a smooth flow of traffic, the police advise drivers to take the E25 and Exit 48 (Werbomont) rather than the E42.
