The second Sports Night organised by the City of Brussels will take place on Saturday from 5.00 p.m. to 11 p.m. in the centre of town and in the Bois de la Cambre park. It will feature a host of demonstrations and initiations covering various sports.
Last year about 30,000 persons took part in the activities, not counting people who stopped to look as they were passing by.
At the first edition, a Drone Race attracted 20,000 persons, Boxing, 4,000 and the Night Run, 7,000. The Drone Race will again be held this year at the Mont des Arts, as well as the Night Run, during which joggers wearing head lamps run around the city centre, starting at the Royal Palace.
A novelty of this year’s edition will be a race for brake-less, fixed-gear cycles, held in the Bois de la Cambre park. Another innovation will be the pole vault, for which a 40-metre runoff and a vaulting mat will be installed opposite the Stock Exchange (Bourse). The 2018 Belgian champion, Aurélie Deryck, and Brussels’ Chloé Henry, the first Belgian woman to qualify for the European Championships, in 2016, are expected to be there. Initiation sessions for amateurs are also planned.
The public will also be able to benefit from initiations into the martial arts and attend demonstrations on the pedestrian street.
They can also view Layla, the 9-metre-long rowboat that crossed the Atlantic in December, while a e Wave Surf Pool installed last weekend at the Place de la Bourse (Stock Exchange Square) for Zot Day – in honour of extreme sports – will remain available.
Some of the City’s sports infrastructure will open their doors free of charge for the Night.
