Roberto Martinez and technical committee seek successor to Thierry Henry

AS Monaco announced on Saturday the appointment of Thierry Henry as their new head coach. Thus, the Frenchman, 41, puts an end to his cooperation with the Belgian Union as the Red Devils’ assistant coach. “Together with the technical commission, Coach Roberto Martinez will look for a successor,” the Red Devils’ spokesperson Stefan Van Loock said to Belga.

“But before that, the focus is on sports, namely the derby against the Netherlands on Tuesday.”

Third coach since 2016, Henry was promoted as Martinez assistant coach last summer, following Graeme Jones’s departure. Martinez and the Federation must now find a successor. “It is impossible to say when his name will be known,’’ Van Loock added. “A new T2 for the next Nations League games in November? We are not setting a deadline.”

Winners against Switzerland by 2-1 on Friday, the Red Devils took an option on being first in their Nations League group. In November, they will host Iceland (15/11), and will then travel to Switzerland for the return match (18/11).
