Guardiola wants Kompany to stay on at Manchester City

Coach Pep Guardiola would like to see Vincent Kompany extend his stay at Manchester City when his contract with the current champions ends on 30 June 2019. Guadiola said at a press conference that negotiations were under way. “Yes, we are considering it and we are talking about about it,” the Manchester City coach said. “I would like him to stay. He is our captain and has been here for 10 years. We saw in the games against Southampton and Liverpool that he has a huge personality. His only problem is linked to his injuries.”

The 32-year-old defender has been with the Skyblues since 2008, bagging three Premier league titles (2012, 2014 and 2018) and one in the FA Cup (2011). This season, he made the starting line-up only six times in 21 championship days.

City, which handed leaders Liverpool their first defeat for the season, is so far second in the championship, trailing the Reds by four points. On Monday, Guadiola’s squad plays at home to 9th placed Wolverhampton for the 22nd day.
