Islamic State: the Belgian Abdelmajid Gharmaoui did not take part in an execution

Abdelmajid Gharmaoui, a 28 year old Belgian from Vilvorde, was not among the Islamic State jihadists who took part in several executions broadcast over the weekend in a video. This is the conclusion of an investigation on him by the federal Prosecutor’s Office, one of their spokesmen said on Wednesday, which confirms information in La Dernière Heure. The Belgian security services suspect Abdelmajid Gharmaoui, from Vilvorde currently fighting in Syria, of being a member of the Islamic State due to his resemblance to one of executioners visible in a video broadcast over the weekend by the terrorist organization. In it, we can jihadists armed with knives decapitating prisoners.

Abdelmajid Gharmaoui has put on his Facebook page that he is in Dabiq, a town North of Alep. No other Belgian Islamic State militant is currently there. According to “Jihadi John”, a British militant who is also one of the executioners who appears in several videos showing the execution of prisoners, this is the town where the events in the video took place. This was confirmed by satellite images and Syrian activists.
