According to the PEC, 128 journalists were killed in 2014

This year, 128 journalists died on the job or because of it, said the PEC (Press Enblem Campaign). The most deadly region was the Gaza strip during the summer of Israel’s military operation. Sixteen reporters died there between July and August according to the organization, which is based in Switzerland. Syria is also a dangerous zone for journalists: 13 died there, including those beheaded by the Islamic State (IS). Twelve journalists died in Pakistan, and ten in Iraq.

In Ukraine, where authorities are battling Russian separatists, nine journalists died. 4 of them were Russians.

The PEC said 129 journalists died around the world in 2013.

The countries considered most dangerous for the profession have not changed much several years: Syria, Pakistan, Mexico, Iraq and Somalia. Brazil, Honduras, the Philippines, India and occupied Palestinian territories are also high risk zones.
