Ebola – Janssen tests an Ebola vaccine on humans

Janssen, the Belgian branch of the pharmaceutical company Johnson and Johnson, is testing a preventative vaccine for Ebola on humans. The company made the announcement on Tuesday. Janssen and its Danish partner, Bavarian Nordic, have produced 400,000 vaccines in Leyde, in the Netherlands. They will be used in clinical Johan Van Hoof, is also one of the project leaders.

Janssen will test the vaccine on 72 healthy adult volunteers, under the direction of the Oxford Vaccine Group. This is a section of the pediatrics department of Oxford University. The first volunteers have received their first dose. The company will do more tests in the United States and Africa.

Two other Ebola vaccines, developed by GlaxoSmithKline and Merck, are also being tested.
