Nepal earthquake – B-Fast have not started work

The Belgian B-Fast team had not yet started work in Gorkha, Nepal, on Thursday morning, five days after the violent earthquake that killed around 5,500 people. The plan was to use a helicopter to reach the most isolated villages hit by the earthquake, but the search has been delayed by bad weather. A small group of aid workers are waiting to be able to travel to 5 of the damaged villages by helicopter as they cannot be reached by road. “After reconnaissance work, we can form an action plan”, explains Gilles Du Bois d’Aische, head of B-Fast. He spent hours discussing plans with local authorities. “We hope that the weather will get better quickly”. During the delay, the team’s doctors have been caring for residents in Gorkha.
