Baby found dead in Luxemburg brook; mother under arrest

A 6-month-old baby was found dead in a brook between two Luxemburg villages, Reisdorf and Eppeldorf, on Tuesday. The mother, who had reported a case of kidnapping, was arrested and incarcerated, reveals Luxemburg daily Le Quotidien on Wednesday.

The baby’s mother reported on Tuesday at midday that her child had been snatched in the street by a stranger.

The news of the kidnapping led to massive police and emergency services mobilisation in the Grand Duchy in order to look for the child and the alleged kidnapper.

At the police station where she was asked to clarify the circumstances of the kidnapping, the mother of the child gave several versions of the facts. Investigators were wary of the woman who appeared to be suffering from depression, and quickly concluded there might be other trails to follow.

The body of the baby was found at around 7.00pm. The circumstances of the tragedy are not yet clear.
