Paris attacks: the man who drove Salah Abdeslam is in custody

At the end of Friday afternoon, the Brussels Council Chamber decided to prolong the arrest warrant for the suspects arrested as part of the investigation into the Paris attacks, by a month. One of them Ali O, drove Salah Adbeslam to Brussels the day after the attacks. Salam Abdeslam, who is still on the run, is suspected of being involved in the Paris attacks along with his brother Brahim Abdeslam, who blew himself up.

Ali O, who drove Salah Abdeslam when he returned to Belgium after the attacks in Paris on the 14th of November last year, and Abdellah C (we don’t know what he is suspected of), are both still in custody.

On Friday, the Brussels Council Chamber decided to prolong their arrest warrants by a month.

According to Olivier Martins, Ali O’s lawyer, his client received a call from a friend at around 1pm on the 14th of November. The friend asked him to pick him up on Bockstael square in Laeken.

Another man, Salah Abdeslam, man was with his friend, but Ali O said he didn’t recognise him right away as he was wearing a hat.

Salah Abdeslam was a friend of Ali O’s.

“During the journey, Salah Abdeslam told him his brother Brahim killed people in Paris and blew himself up. For my client, it was a big shock. He didn’t understand anything and couldn’t reason clearly”, said Mr Martins. “Salah Abdeslam asked him to take him to Schaerbeek, which my client did after stopping in a café on the road”, the lawyer said on Friday morning.
