The names of 65 established Antwerp diamond merchants have appeared in documents from the offices of Mossack Fonseca.
So Le Soir, De Tijd, Knack and MO* reveal on Wednesday as part of the Panama Papers scandal.
Amongst these are five of the ten largest players in the sector trading within the Antwerp area.
Thus, the second largest merchant Rosy Blue, was engaged in a plethora of co-ventures on a global scale, and was actively involved in around twenty offshore entities between 2002 and 2008, mainly in the British Virgin Islands.
Smaller diamond merchants are also cited in the documents. They have their offshore dealings mainly in Panama, in the British Virgin Islands and on Niue Island, most often through banks, consultancy firms or lawyers located in Switzerland.
