Nearly 3,000 Belgians bought a Spanish property during past year

In 2015, more than 2,900 Belgian bought a Spanish property, La Libre Belgique reports on Wednesday, citing an average figure of eight purchases per day.

The daily newspaper cites official statistics from Spanish land registry offices (the Spanish equivalent of H.M. Land Registry in the UK), which evidences an increase in second home purchases by Belgians in Spain. There were 2,870 purchases in 2014 and 2,907 in 2015 (an increase of 1.3 %), or, as previously stated, nearly eight purchases per day.

Belgians are the fourth largest foreign home purchasers in Spain (having 6.26% of the foreign market share), preceded by, in reverse order, the Germans (7.33%), the French (8.72%) and, naturally topping the bill, at 21.34%, the British.

The fall in Spanish property prices since 2008 has benefited the second home market. Prices increased only mildly in 2014, to then continue the upward trend in 2015 wth an increase of 6.6%.
