Anti-terrorist measures - suspect arrested in Greece “agrees” to be handed over to Belgian authorities

The 33-year-old Algerian arrested in Athens on Saturday on suspicion of having links to the jihadist cell  dismantled in Belgium last week has agreed to be turned over to Belgian authorities, a source in the Greek judicial system has revealed. The source also said that the suspect had claimed he wanted to “prove his innocence” in this case as he stood before the prosecutor of Athens Court of Appeal who had requested the man’s extradition for “belonging to a terrorist organisation.” The judge will make a final decision by Wednesday.

The Federal Prosecutor’s office has remained unavailable to confirm this information.
