Amphibians have started their annual migration. The migration has started very late this year due to the intense cold at the end of February and the beginning of March. Experts think migration from the winter habitats to water holes here will be particularly high this weekend due to expected temperatures of around 15 degrees.
“Toads need a minimum temperature of around 10°C and enough humidity for their migration”, says Dominique Verbelen from Naturrpunt. “As it was cold for a long time and all the amphibians have woken up at the same time these last few days, they will probably mass migrate together at dusk.”
