A €225 allowance for the purchase of fuel oil or propane for home heating will be available to 21% of Belgian households.

Back in March, the federal government granted a one-off allowance of €200 that would reduce Belgians' energy bills if they purchased diesel oil or propane to heat their households.

Last Saturday, ministers decided to increase this allowance to €225, owing to the additional revenue earned by the State due to recent price rises in oil.

On Thursday, the parties in Belgium's Federal Chamber overwhelmingly accepted to pass the draft including the €25 increase, that was proposed by Economy Minister Pierre-Yves Dermagne.

Translation of tweet: "Pierre-Yves Dermagne's bill, which grants a 225€ cheque to all households that use oil for their heating, has been adopted in the Chamber. Belgians who filled their tank up between 15 November 2021 and 31 December 2022 will be able to apply for this cheque as of next month."

Who can benefit from this? How and when?

Belga News Agency is reporting that the measure could help out 21% of all Belgian households.

Beneficiaries will be required to submit an online form or a physical form to be mailed to the FPS Economy as soon as the law is published in the Belgian Official Journal.
