An estimated 2.7 million people watched the Red Devils' World Cup 2022 match against Morocco on Sunday. While viewership statistics were down from last year's Euro 2020, the match garnered a record viewer number on Auvio, RTBF's digital platform.
Broadcast on RTBF and VRT at 14:00 (CET), Belgium's 2-0 defeat amassed a 77% audience share among French-speaking viewers, with an around 1 million tuning in to watch; in Flanders viewer numbers were even higher totalling 1,692,643 and accounting for 88.2% of the audience share.
This combined figure of 2.7 million viewers still represents a decrease from the viewing figures at last year's Euro 2020, where 3.8 million Belgians tuned into to watch the Red Devils beat Portugal in the round of 16.
Streaming success?
The match's viewership figures did set a new record for Auvio, RTBF's digital platform, with 394,150 people following online.

By comparison, 437,064 Flemish viewers followed the match on various online platforms, "good figures," according to VRT.
