On Friday, RSC Anderlecht announced the appointment of Brian Riemer as head coach. Riemer is the former assistant coach of Premier League side FC Brentford and will be replacing the recently sacked Felice Mazzù.

After a poor league start that was compounded by a loss to their historical rivals Standard de Liège, RSC Anderlecht fired their head coach Felice Mazzù, who had joined the club over the summer from local rivals Union Saint-Gilloise.

In the meantime, the club had named their youth coach Robin Veldman as caretaker coach, while looking for Mazzù's replacement. The search was spearheaded by their new Sporting Director Jesper Fredberg, who chose to appoint his compatriot Brian Riemer.

Translation of tweet: "Brian Riemer is RSC Anderlecht's new head coach. The Dane leaves the Premier League and FC Brentford FC to join Sporting."

As a result, Riemer will be moving to the Belgian capital from London, where he was Thomas Frank's assistant coach at Premier League club FC Brentford.
