The management of the Brussels Fire Brigade has condemned the firefighters who took part in yesterday’s demonstration against mandatory vaccination for healthcare workers.

The protest march ended with a police intervention after protestors tried to force their way into the office of Health Minister Frank Vandenbroucke.

‘The management of the Brussels Fire Brigade strongly condemns the unacceptable and wanton behaviour of certain persons wearing intervention clothing of the fire brigade during the demonstration of the healthcare sector,’ the management of the Brussels Fire Brigade said in a statement.

“Their behaviour is in complete contradiction to the values that we as an institution wish to propagate and is, in fact, strongly disapproved of by the majority of our colleagues.”

Tear gas was used and the door was left cracked and damaged when the mob of protestors, some of them carrying actual lit torches, scattered after law enforcement intervened. Firefighters who participated in the march are now facing potential police sanctions, reports Bruzz.

‘Of course, everyone can protest and has a right to protest,’ the statement continued. ‘But when you represent a public service, this must be done in a respectful way, especially towards the police. If it turns out that any Brussels firemen were among the rioters, disciplinary proceedings will be initiated.’
